What are we about?
We solve security problems. Maybe it’s cameras to protect your property – maybe you need round the clock video surveillance with an operator to provide a security response. Maybe it is an alarm system to detect unauthorized intrusion. Maybe you need to control access to your business, condominium, apartment complex, pool, or private residence. You aren’t alone, the need for security solutions is rising in Canada and we have the tools to provide you with peace of mind and to protect your family, property, and assets.
What got us here today?
Beacon was born of an idea back in 1994 by a cool guy named David. He worked with a great technician named Fred. After many successful years working together, David sold the business to Gray to simplify his life and consider retiring. Beacon still works with Fred to this day but added 6 or 7 friends for him to work with after the purchase in 2016. Since 2016, Beacon has been expanding its experience with new and modern systems to provide security on Vancouver Island including AI and analytics driven surveillance systems, live video monitoring, modern alarm systems with a variety of communication capabilities, backup battery solutions, expanding relationships with independent monitoring stations, and avoiding getting bought out by corporate giants.
Our team makes the difference:
We would be nowhere without our certified and experienced technicians and our office staff. You will notice that our small business philosophy of “make it right even when that’s hard or doesn’t make you a big profit” will make a difference in your life or project. We are the company that people call when they learn that customer and staff welfare come before profits. We have to keep the lights on and our people paid a fair living but profit comes after nurturing success and our reputation. Our ownership team is paid last not first.
Fred
Expert Senior Technician​
Fred makes the magic happen. With 40+ years of experience, he sets the standard for professional installation and if he can’t make something complex work then it probably isn’t possible…yet. We believe that Fred’s spirit animal is a cat. This is an inside joke told to Gray by the original owner/founder’s wife.
Adrian
Senior Security Technician and Alarm Installer (under Fred’s supervision)
Adrian is another expert working at Beacon and a future owner/partner we hope. He has years of experience (10+) in security with a big corporation and prefers to work at the speed of life with a smaller company he can eventually own a good piece of. A father and a great tech, he enjoys the balance of work and family at our company. Adrian has not revealed his spirit animal yet. 🙂
Ron
Senior Security Technician
Ron is another expert working at Beacon and also a future owner/partner we hope. He has years of experience (10+) in security and related fields and likes to be home for his young family too instead of on the road away from home for several days at a time like his last job.
Mark
Senior Security Technician
Mark joined us in the summer of 2024. He was an owner / operator of a security installation business in Ontario till his move to BC. He has years of experience (20+) in security and related fields and enjoys dog training and keeping busy doing construction management in his spare time.
Hailee
Security Analyst / Data Technician / Quality Assurance
Hailee started as a technician but found an amazing niche as our reigning security analyst, data master, and quality assurance provider. Hailee is able to multi-task these roles and occasionally provide backup to the primary technicians in the field. She has a few years now of experience with Beacon and Six Tech, our sister company.
Talia, Julia, and Lisa
Office Management Team
Talia, Julia and Lisa make up our office management team. From bookings, quotes, bookkeeping, payroll, AP and AR, these professional and skilled women look after our customer experience and keep the team organized. They all come from different backgrounds and walks of life but their schedules and lives fit nicely into Beacon and Six Tech’s needs for a terrific partnership and opportunity for growth.
Gray
Owner/President
This is where the buck stops. He wants his team to be successful and balance their work and life with time for their families. The whole company is designed to work during the week and be done at a reasonable time in the afternoon so they can spend time with their families and doing what matters to them. Beacon and sister company Six Tech share profits with their staff. When Gray retires, he plans to offer the company to his staff before considering any corporate offers.
